Letter From the Editor: Here’s to Eight Pages

When I decided to expand The Lake Bluff Chat from four pages to eight, I was elated. Then reality set in. Would I have enough stories? Enough people? Enough ideas? Would anyone actually want to read eight pages about our little town?

As I rushed to finish this issue, something unexpected happened. The people I was writing about quietly answered every one of those questions. Joan Reynolds reminded me that learning doesn’t end at 91. Josh Fox and Ron Oesterlein showed me that communities are built one neighbor and one act of service at a time. Bodie and Hattie’s siblings demonstrated an emotional maturity that many adults spend a lifetime trying to develop. Mario remind me that connection is everything. Our local founders, Annie, Kate and Isabella, reminded me that courage isn’t the absence of doubt - it’s choosing to build anyway.

Somewhere along the way, I realized this newspaper isn’t simply about sharing local news. It’s about documenting the people who quietly shape our community - the ones who create, volunteer, teach, perform, encourage, persevere and show up for one another. Their stories deserve to be told because they remind us what’s possible. This issue stretched me. It also confirmed something: I love it. And according to Joan, we should all do what we love.

Thank you for reading, for encouraging me, and for sharing the people and stories that make Lake Bluff such an extraordinary place to call home.
